I'm in Aspen for Christmas. This is a picture I took this morning of my Mom's house. It's a beautiful snowy day here. Now... we'll see about my flights home.
December 2007 Archives
This is a pretty cool project:
"We sent a whole bunch of disposable cameras to Lesotho a few weeks ago, and asked the children, teachers, and farmers participating in the program to take photos of their daily lives. We wanted them to help us document their lives and their stories, to bridge the distance, physical or otherwise, between us. When we got the cameras back and developed the films, we were completely swept away by the power of those images. Unlike photographs filtered by the professional eye, these came from the perspective of the people there. They are showing us a bit of their world, from their own point of view."
A co-worker sent this to me: I laughed so hard I cried.

Sweet. Literally.
There is a new chocolate company launching in SF. This will be something like the fifth chocolate company in the bay area (Ghirardelli, Rechiutti, Scharffen Berger, Guittard). They say they will be the only chocolate factory in SF, which might be true, but there is an abundance of great chocolate in the Bay Area.
More can only be better
This is worth reading:

The way ahead is difficult. The outer boundary of what we currently believe is feasible is still far short of what we actually must do.
I know, I hate to harp on this one issue so much, but to me it's so blindingly obvious, it's silly. Watch the video on this post. Normally we get such wishy washy coverage -- lots of "he says, but then she says," presenting each side as equal. Here the host really digs into the abstinence only guest in a way that makes her defend her position.

I posted this to craigslist, but maybe someone will come across it here.
I'm flying into Bamako on evening of January 8th and driving to Essakane/Timbuktu/Tombouctou on January 9th.
My friend and I have hired a driver and a car for the drive. We're looking for 1 or 2 people to drive with us to help share costs. We have a 4x4 vehicle and the driver has been used before by friends of ours.
Alternately, if someone else already has transportation and has room for us, we'd be happy to split costs.
